Greetings from the Immigrant Rights Movement (MDI). A political
organization organization representing immigrants, with and without
papers, in the San Francisco Bay Are, California, USA.

We have similar problems and struggles than our sisters and
brothers sans papiers in France. We are with them in solidarity
and struggle. We would like to explore the possibilities of
coordinating our common struggle. Please, send us the way to
establish permanent communication and solidarity.

We are going to celebrate our 3rd. Annuan Conference next December
7. We would appreciate a message from the sans papiers explaining
their struggle and making concrete proposals as to how we can help
them in their struggle.

Some of the areas of work we had been involved in:

1. Immigrant Pride Day -- a yearly celebration of our culture and
heritage. It is celebrated on the second weekend each October.
Last immigrant Pride Day was celebrated on October 12 in San
Francisco. Eight thousand (8,000) immigrants and 100 artists from
26 different countries participated -- political workshops, union
and political organizing; human rights conferences and, of course,
plenty of fun, games, music, dance, etc

2. Community and Labor Organizing -- we do a lot of community
outreach and organizing in our immigrant communities to empower
them through taking control of local institutions; we are also
involve in union organizing drives involving immigrant workers;
we are also involved in educational campaigns in the communities
where we are active.

3. We are part of the publishing efforts of Nuevo Horizonte, an
spanish newspaper(bi-weekly and we are about to launch an English
monthly to develop ties with other communities and defend immigrant
rights. We are also publishing "Boletin del Inmigrante" --
Immigrant Bulletin and participate in a number of TV, radio and
other media through an special project.

4. We organized a lot of political activities. We organized
demonstrations (some of them with thousands of participants),
coalitions and other forms of resistance against new anti-immigrant
legislation. We are also involved in different coalitions and
recently we ran immigrant candidates at the local level with good
and excelent results!. We also promote local legislation aimed to
enhance immigrant rights -- i.e: Immigrant Voting Rights Initiative
to allow immigrants who live in the City to vote on local elections
of officers and initiatives (referendums). We are also organizing
international solidarity campaigns for immigrants in other
countries.
